Introduction of mobile phone in India was dawn of a new era in communication. Today we all cannot expect a person without a mobile phone.
A new trend in communication:If someone says that he doesnt possess a mobile phone, we will sure treat him as a primitive. Yes that is very true. In fact mobiles have changed the way we live, do work etc. Communication in terms of speaking to someone only used to happen by the means of land phones. This used to make things a bit difficult as people had to stationery during conversation. Apart from this it was really difficult to contact a person when travelling across. I am sure there are a thousand benefits that one can speak of for mobiles.
History of Mobile phones in India:
Mobile phones in India were launched on 31st of July, 1995. During those days, there was no variety available for handsets. There were only a few models available and they used to be too heavy and large in size to manage. Talk time during those days was too costly too. I happened to own a connection at that time and I am sure the incoming calls were also charged those days. The connection cost including the handset was about 35,000.00. The call charges used to be about 35 rupees for outbound calls and 16 rupees for inbound calls.
Latest trend in mobile phones:
Till recently the availability of mobile phones in India was not that great. There were only limited models available for public. The best models released in developed countries used to reach India only after 6 to 8 months of their launch. But the trend has changed. After new companies coming in Indian markets and Indian companies developing this technology, we have a wide range of handsets. Today we can get the best phones at the most efficient rates.
Value Added features:
Earlier mobile phones were used only as an instrument to speak. Now the trend has changed. Latest handsets are more like our companions. They tell how you are or rather they define your personality. They come with a huge bundle of value added services. The most common services being access to WAP, internet, Blue tooth, Touch Screen for enhanced gaming experience, Music Players etc. The memory capacity of phones has also increased. I remember owing a phone that came with a capacity of 128KB memory card and now I own a phone that has a memory capacity of more than 32 GB.
Fun and Caution about Mobile Phones:
Mobile phones can be fun at times. It is a device that can act as a book, still camera, movie camera, FM Radio, Music Player, Information Storage Vault etc. We can have a lot of fun and as a matter of fact, good handsets have become our best friends or companions.
It is said that every coin has two phases to it. In the same way, there are a couple of disadvantages of handsets. In India, there was a trend when there were so called china mobiles rocking the markets. These phones do not come with an IMEI number and are very hard to trace if lost. Secondly, these phones had issues with their batteries. There have been incidents where these batteries exploded causing burns to the user. Apart from this, there were many more. My personal advice to you all would be to avoid using such phones. Only go with good models that are made by reputed companies.
